Heather Hill Boutique

Did you think Heather Hill Boutique was a shop filled only with fun, frilly dresses for little girls?
It's what I thought until the other day until a friend told me otherwise.  Armed with the new information, I headed down with my kiddos and a friend to see what else Heather Hill Boutique had to offer.
This is what I found:
A beautiful bag made just for grown-up girls!
I want one!  Or two...
Just below the wonderful bags and totes I found this:
A darling apron!  I'm thinking it could make dinner-cooking all the more fun!
I'm so glad my friend Julia set me straight on Heather Hill Boutique.

And in other Heather Hill Boutique news, they will be moving to another location just around the corner from their current location.  They'll pack up all the cute things Saturday night, set them up in what used to be the Baby Habit, and reopen on Tuesday morning at 10am.
Perhaps you should pay them a visit... Mother's Day is almost here!  (Hint, hint...)

And after you've visited Heather Hill Boutique at their new location, head back to their previous location, because rumor has it a shop full of cute things for boys is moving in.

Creative Corner on Broadway

Earlier this week, I stopped in for a chat with Julie at Creative Corner on Broadway.
What a place!
They are open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10am-5pm.
Julie has all kinds of scrapbooking and paper-crafting supplies and tools.
The ribbon rack was calling my name...
And this piece of paper?  As soon as I have a minute without my boys, I'm headed down to make it my own!
But I saved the best for last!
Julie says anyone is welcome to stop by and crop for free anytime during business hours.
They are ready for you!  Just behind the Creative Dept door is a spot set up for just for you and all your creative expressions.
Along with the crop-anytime option, Creative Corner on Broadway will also host organized cropping events.  Julie will have sign-up sheets at the shop and spots will be filled on a first-come basis.  A good way to find out more information about upcoming crops is to find and friend Creative Corner on Broadway on Facebook.  In the meantime, here are a few dates for your calendar:

May 6th
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting at 10am
Stop by for snacks, door prizes, and make & takes

May 8th
Open late for Second Saturday Festivities
There will also be a crop going on that night--stop by the shop for more information and to sign up

Thanks for visiting with me,  Julie, and welcome to the neighborhood!

Dogwood Festival Recap

The weekend turned out to be a rainy one!  Of course, a local Siloam-er would expect nothing less than a rainy weekend--it seems to happen most years!
My only chance to visit the Dogwood Festival was on Saturday morning in the drizzle.
Our first stop was at Books on Broadway to pick up our signed copy of Dawn Denton's new childrens' book titled Ruby and Rocket.  If you haven't purchased your copy yet, there are still books available at the book shop.
We enjoyed a piece of cake while looking through the pages of our new book.
The rain didn't stop us! We were hungry for carnival food!
We headed over to the food trucks and chose a snack to share.
That corn dog hit the spot!
We heard from friends that Saturday and Sunday afternoons were beautiful weather-wise and perfect for exploring downtown.  Oh well, we had our fun in the rain!

The Dogwood Festival

This weekend marks Siloam Springs' 36th Annual Dogwood Festival, and downtown is busy preparing to host the event.  This morning I wandered around Broadway Street, and here are some of the things I discovered...
Even nature is cooperating!

...craft vendors are setting up their booths near the gazebo...
...food vendors are preparing to make their festival treats near the Community Building...

Are you in need of a last minute gift for the administrative professional in your life?  Head downtown to Broadway Flowers!  It sounds like they have just the thing!  Here's what they have to say...

"This week is Professional Administrative week.  We are offering a cute special that consists of a small “Keepers of the Light” candle with long lasting flowers in the lid that fits on top.  All for $20!  We are also offering the large candle the same way for $35.  In honor of the Dogwood Festival, we are returning the offering the “Dogwood rose” for $20.  This is a bud vase of three roses with greenery and a sprig of silk dogwood.  As always if these are not what you are looking for, we are happy to make any arrangements to your price range.  Call 549-3737 today to reserve your order.   We thank you for shopping Broadway Flowers!"

Farmer's Market: Asparagus

This past Thursday the Siloam Springs Farmer's Market reopened for the 2010 season.  I headed downtown in search of some spring goodness.

I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of produce available at the market this early in the year.  I went home with asparagus, Egyptian onions, bok choy, and a basil plant.  We had the asparagus for dinner later that night.

I preheated my oven to 425 degrees, washed and snapped the asparagus ends, drizzled them with some olive oil, sprinkled on some salt and pepper, and roasted the spears for about 25 minutes.
And then I ate the better half of my bunch all by myself!
YUM!

Please support our local farmers and head down to the market first thing tomorrow morning (this past Thursday the fresh flowers were gone by the time I arrived).

Siloam Springs Farmer's Market
Located downtown in the parking lot and park near the Community Building
at the corner of Mt. Olive and University Streets
Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8am-1pm

Check back here for the upcoming official opening day details.

Enjoy eating your local produce!

An Introduction

Hello!
My name is Karyn and I'll be helping out around here at The Word on Main Street.
I love Downtown Siloam Springs!  Someday I hope to live in a loft on Broadway Street.  Until then I'm choosing to be content making the trek downtown a few times each week with my two little boys.  A few of our favorite things about downtown are playing in the creek, grabbing a juice box from the Cafe on Broadway, and hearing a story at Books on Broadway.

I'm looking forward to exploring Downtown Siloam Springs with you.  If you need to contact us, our email can be found in the top left corner.  We'll also try to keep the "Upcoming Events" current.  If there's an upcoming event we need to know about, please send us an email and we'll do our best to post the information.
Thanks for visiting!
