Happy Birthday!

This morning we went to a Downtown birthday party!
 Today is Arvest's 50th birthday!

Loving Downtown as we do, we often stop by the Downtown Arvest branch to do our banking.
Here are the friendly people who help us keep track of our hard-earned cash:
And here's the party table.  Cake and lemonade.  YUM!
Happy Birthday to Arvest!  Best wishes especially to the Downtown branch.

I'll see you Downtown!

PS: Thanks to Arvest for the pictures.

Learning in the Park

Yesterday morning the local CHESS group (Siloam Springs home schoolers) met Downtown near the Gazebo for a Nature Notebook session.

Local author Dawn Denton read two of her books (Ruby and Rocket and Oliver the Toad--both available at Books on Broadway) and shared with the children some ways to make their backyards places where hummingbirds and toads would want to live.
The children made notes in their notebooks while Ms. Dawn was sharing.
Then they painted toad houses to put in their backyards.
At the very end of the session, Dawn let us in on a little secret.  This picture is from her book titled Ruby and Rocket.  Does the fountain look a little familiar?
Yes?  Well, you're right!  Dawn specifically asked her illustrator to draw a fountain like our fountain.  It's just a little something special for the children who spend time in Downtown Siloam Springs.
Thanks Dawn!

Annual Ornament

Downtown's annual Christmas tree ornament has arrived!
Here's the official announcement:
This unique replica of the Community Building is a symbol of the beautiful architectural heritage found within our historic downtown. All proceeds from purchases of the 2011 Ornament directly improve downtown revitalization efforts through Main Street Siloam Springs' program. Produced in the United States, these 24 karat gold on brass ornaments are the highest quality of their kind, and will not tarnish. Each ornament is $15.00. Pre-order yours now by calling 524.4556 or emailing meredith@mainstreetsiloam.com! These will be available for purchase in downtown retail establishments soon.

Be sure to head Downtown to get one for your tree.  I picked up mine at Books on Broadway, and I know other shops have them as well.  One little catch--there are only 263!  Don't wait until Christmas, purchase one now and support our Downtown.

I'll see you Downtown!

Extended Hours

Pour Jon's has a new look. They've added their logo to the back of their building.  I think it looks great!
And they're back to extended late night hours just in time to welcome back the JBU students.  Grab a cup of coffee and a croissant next time you're out late.  YUM!

I'll see you Downtown!

Zinnia Alley

What we refer to as Zinnia Alley is once again in full bloom.
If taking a walk is on your weekend agenda, remember to walk past.
Zinnias love the heat, so they're having a grand summer!

Weekend Plans

Do you have weekend plans yet? Nope? Me neither.
With the start of school, this week got a bit crazy for some of us.

Here are a couple of things to keep in mind when you're ready to think about the weekend.
Heather Hill is having a sale!
A blow out sale!
Stop by and stock up on cute kid clothes and accessories.

Remember to swing by the Farmer's Market on Saturday morning.  On Tuesday I picked up three different colors of tomatoes--red, orange, and yellow.  They made a bright and colorful pasta salad.

Look and Listen

KLRC is happily settled in their new home Downtown. It's fun having them here.

From the street you can look in the studio windows and actually see what is happening on air.  Pretty fun, huh?  Even more fun is the button to the left of the door.  Push the button and you can hear what's happening in the studio!  It's a great feature.
Next time you're Downtown be sure to "Take a listen, take a look".
Welcome to the neighborhood, KLRC!

I'll see you Downtown!

Somewhere New to Sit

Do you follow the Cafe on Broadway on Twitter?  If you don't, you might want to start.  It's how I find out about all kinds of things going on down there.  If Betty has something yummy coming out of the oven or if they get a new gift item (like a new color of teapot), they typically tweet about it tempting me to head Downtown.  (Just between you and me, it doesn't take much to convince me!)

Today they tweeted the following picture showing their new seating area.
It's located just behind the cafe and will be perfect for our upcoming fall weather.  And boy am I ever ready for fall!

Weekend Plans

School is starting on Monday.  Can you believe it?
It's our last chance to stay up late enjoying the summer evenings.
There's always something going on Downtown, but these two things will help you enjoy the last bits of summer...

Storytime at Books on Broadway
Saturday August 13th 6:00 PM
They'll be reading:
SKYPPYJON JONES--CLASS ACTION
Siamese cat Skippyjon Jones really wants to go to dog school, but his mama won't let him. Inside his closet, he finds himself on the playground of his imagination surrounded by dogs of all kinds. And when a bully sends shiver-itos down the spines of the little yippers, Skippy saves the day and earns the biggest gold star. Full color.

Then grab some gelato at Fratelli's (I hear they've got Extra Rich Dark Chocolate Coverture in the freezer) before heading down to Second Saturdays for music in the park.
Rick Reding and the White River Music Company will be playing some tunes.

Good-bye summer...

I'll see you Downtown!

PS: There are some fun must-have school supplies to be found Downtown, too!  Four Corner's Frame has all kinds of stationery, Amandromeda has vintage clothes for back-to-school clothes, Books on Broadway can order any books you might need to start the semester, Heather Hill Boutique has the perfect hair accessory, and I could go on an on...  Perhaps you'd better just grab a cup of coffee at Pour Jon's and shop for yourself!

Dog Days of Summer

I so wish I could have attended the Dog Days of Summer event.  It fell smack in the middle of my family's vacation.  Bummer!

It looks like fun was had by all!
The dogs of Siloam Springs and their owners headed Downtown for the morning this past Saturday.
Look at all those cute puppies!  My puppy wishes she had been there, too!
Here's to next year...

Crafty Needs

Do you know what this is?
Me neither.
But I'm pretty sure some of you might just might need one.
Here's what Julie from Creative Corner on Broadway has to say:
"They have arrived!! Get yours now before they are gone! I am telling you, if you have a cricut, you want one of these!! $18!!!"

I'll see you Downtown!

PS: You might want to friend Creative Corner on Broadway on Facebook to find out about another deal of the day.

Quiche

Hello.
My name is Karyn, and I'm a bad blogger.
Sure, I have a list of excuses, but that's no excuse!
I think I'm going to head down to The Cafe on Broadway and eat away my guilt.
They have Bacon Gruyere and Spinach Quiche today.
Yum.
I might be a bad blogger, but...regardless...

I'll see you Downtown!
